Day 2 -
Visit Moscow

Begin your Russian waterways cruise with a city tour that reveals some of the main sights of Moscow which dates back to 1147. The tour includes trips to Red Square, St Basil Cathedral which is a vibrant hub of the city, Sparrow Hill and Lubyanka Square. After enjoying a delicious lunch on board the ship as you cruise along the picturesque Moscow River, you can admire the Russian fine art in the Tretyakov Art Museum. In the evening of your Russian waterways cruise you can witness the exciting atmosphere at the Moscow Circus which has played a large role in Russia’s traditions for many years, this excursion is optional.

Day 3 -
Explore Russia’s capital city, Moscow

A Russian waterways cruise would not be complete without a tour of the famous Kremlin which boasts striking architecture. Also on the tour you will visit the Armoury, Russia’s oldest museum, Moscow Metro which is beautifully embellished with chandeliers and frescos and finally, the bustling Arbat Street. After a day’s exploration why not see ‘Moscow by Night’?

Day 4 -
Uglich
|
This wonderful city lies on the banks of the Volga and its rich history dates back to 1148. Marvel at the stunningly ornate churches and cathedrals such as the Church of Dimitry on the Blood which was devoted to the unfortunate tale of Ivan the Terrible’s son. Today on your Russian waterways cruise you will get the opportunity to learn about the everyday life of a Russian family as they welcome you into their home and tell of their traditions and culture. Tuck into a hearty home cooked Russian meal before returning to the ship.

Day 5 -
Yaroslavl

Explore one of Russia’s oldest cities, Yaroslavl, whose heritage can be traced right back to the Vikings, on your Russian waterways cruise. This historic city reaches for miles along the Volga and Kotorosl convergence and is peppered with dramatic architecture such as the 12th century Transfiguration Monastery and the Museum of Russian Art.

Day 6 -
Goritsy

This sleepy farming town is a traditional Russian village and is certainly one of the highlights on a Russian waterways cruise. The mystical ambience sweeps through the charming medieval streets and has an emotive effect on visitors that come here. See the impressive Monastery of St Cyril which emerges from the shores of White Lake and amble around the Museum of Icons. Later in the day your Russian waterways cruise begins the voyage to Kizhi.

Day 7 -
Kizhi Island

This magical island is situated at the north side of Lake Onega and is an incredible open-air museum for inspirational Russian wooden architecture. In 1764 the local people constructed, without the use of any nails, the remarkable Church of Intercession which boasts 22 domes and has rightly become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will also visit the Museum of Wooden Architecture on a guided walking tour.

Day 8 -
Svirstroy

A Russian waterways cruise continually introduces you to great places of interest and this quaint village which sits on the edge of River Svir is no exception. The friendly locals welcome you with enthusiasm and there is an abundance of wooden shops that sell Russian art and handicrafts, ideal for buying souvenirs or gifts for friends back home.

Day 9 -
St Petersburg

A previous capital of Russia, St Petersburg’s romantic atmosphere rivals that of Paris or Venice. Over the following three days of your Russian waterways cruise you will have plenty of time to explore this beautiful 18th century city. A wealth of museums, palaces, galleries and colourful squares line the streets of St Petersburg. Enjoy a tour of Nevsky prospect, St Isaac’s Cathedral, Palace Square and the cruiser Aurora which has been conserved as a museum ship. The remainder of today's Russian waterways cruise can be spent at leisure, sample some customary cuisine at a local restaurant and in the evening, watch an optional folkloric show.

Day 10 -
Tour of St Petersburg and an evening at the Ballet

In the morning of your Russian waterways cruise we take a tour of the Hermitage Museum, once the Palace of the Tsars which now houses over three million pieces of art and the royal art collection. This immense museum is unrivalled in both size and grandeur. Spend the evening in the company of talented ballet performers at the Hermitage Theatre.

Day 11 -
Peterhof Palace

This imposing palace is of magisterial proportions and today on the Russian waterways cruise we take a tour of the eminent Imperial Estate. The breathtaking estate comprises extensive luxuriant gardens, ornate palaces and beautiful fountains and is one of the most magnificent in the world. Experience an exciting ride on the hydrofoil, either on the way to the palace or on your return. After lunch you can spend the day as you wish.
